The Tooro king’s palace

The Tooro king’s palace: Located on Kabarole hill, the palace overlooks Fort Portal town and has a great view for a large part of Tooro kingdom. The current king is called Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi II got enthroned at the age of three after the sudden demise of his late father. Now in his early 20s, he commands great respect among the youth and enjoys support from his subjects. The people of Tooro are called batooro. The king is referred to as “Omukama” of Tooro. The language of the kingdom is Rutooro.

Naggalabi Budo coronation site

Naggalabi Budo coronation site. This is located in Buddo – Wakiso district. It’s a place with a platform where the Kabakas of Buganda were installed as kings. Currently the kingdom organizes annual ceremonies to commemorate the coronation day the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was installed as King. A number of rituals are performed on this site every year to commemorate the coronation day. Once a crown prince has been declared king, he never goes back to the site.

The Kasubi tombs.

The Kasubi tombs: Locally called “amasiro”, these are the loyal tombs in which the kings and royals for the Buganda kingdom were and are still buried. It unique in its nature and the main house called Muzibu Azaala Mpaanga was constructed using purely vegetation material – making it stand out in the entire sub Saharan Africa. The caretakers are the selected princess locally known as “Nalinya”.
