Namirembe cathedral
Namirembe cathedral is the headquarters for the Anglican church of Uganda Christians. It was constructed in starting 1915 and opened 1919. It is the oldest cathedral in the country. With red bricks doom, the cathedral stands on Namirembe hill and can be seen from different parts of Kampala city.
Rubaga cathedral
Rubaga cathedral is the oldest catholic cathedral in Uganda. Formerly there was a palace for the Kabaka Muteesa I. When his son Kabaka Mwanga II got enthroned, he gave out the hill to catholic missionaries; the white fathers. Standing on top of Rubaga hill, the cathedral has historical facts about the catholic faith and Christianity in Uganda. It was constructed in 1925. Among the notable historical facts are the remains of the late Archbishop Joseph Kiwanuka – the first African Bishop and Archbishop of Kampala diocese.
Bahai temple
Bahai temple: Situated in Kawempe division, it is the mother temple for the Bahai faith on the continent of Africa. The faith started in Uganda in 1951 and managed to obtain followers in four years they had about 500. The faith faced stiff resentment by former president Idi Amin who banned the faith and killed the then Bahai Hand of the Cause Enoch Olinga and his family. The believers have continued to increase in number now estimated to be approximately 105,000.
Namugongo martyrs shrines
Namugongo martyrs shrines: this is both a historical and religious site in the country. It is a place where over twenty regents to Kabaka Mwanga who had converted to Christianity refused to adhere to certain evil orders. He got furious and ordered them to denounce their faith which they refused and he ordered for their killing. In Namugongo are both a catholic and Anglican churches and every year 3rd June, there are celebrations in remembrance of the martyrs.
